Stand in the Rain

My baby boy stays with his father on Saturdays. Needless to say, Saturdays have become my "cleaning" day. As I was hiking up my driveway (those of you that have seen the mountain I park on can understand) to bring the trash bins back down, it started to drizzle slightly. It didn't take too long before the drizzle turned into heavy droplets. Instead of rushing into the house, I just stood there. One of my favorite songs started playing in my mind. I want to share with you the chorus from "Stand in the Rain" by "Superchick".

"So stand in the rain
Stand your ground
Stand up when it's all crashing down
You stand through the pain
You won't drown
And one day, whats lost can be found
You stand in the rain"

When I came inside, I began to reflect on my life and current situation. Everything I thought about love for the past several years has been a lie. Despite that fact, I still feel privileged to have experienced two great loves in my life. With the first I was not mature enough and the timing was off. I married the second one. And despite his feelings toward me, I loved with every part of my heart to the depths of my soul. Regardless the outcome and though I may be single for the rest of my life, I consider myself very blessed to have loved beyond any words that I can describe.

I know I must have looked goofy while I was outside standing in my "Hancock" beanie (yes, I am a movie nerd) staring up into the sky as the rain poured over me. But I didn't care. I was at peace in that moment. I thank God that I am able to stand in the rain as everything I have know as a way of life comes crashing down around me.

  1. You will not be single the rest of your life unless you choose to be. You are too awesome of a person for that. This was a beautiful post, and Stand In The Rain is a great song....Beauty from pain....isn't that the truth!
